Standing Up Against Injustice Standing Up Against Injustice is both inspirational and instructive, emotional and riveting. A key element of this book is a focus on The Gambia’s human rights situation and political landscape – political turmoil; prison conditions and the plight of prisoners; the death penalty and executions; detention without trial, disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings; and, political repression, and corruption. These are all addressed from Dr. Amadou Scattered Janneh’s personal experience and knowledge as a trained journalist, political scientist, former cabinet minister, entrepreneur, former political prisoner sentenced to a life-term, and a leading critic of the dictatorial regime of President Yahya Jammeh. Standing Up Against Injustice looks at Amadou’s evolution from a seemingly shy pupil at Gunjur Primary School to a budding activist at Saint Augustine’s High School; from a leading anti-apartheid activist at The University of Tennessee to a cabinet minister, and a political prisoner jailed for life. There is an extensive discussion of prison conditions and his incarceration at the Gambia’s notorious Mile II Central Prisons where he saw prisoners being dragged away for execution in August 2012. The book concludes with a discussion of events leading to Dr. Janneh’s release from prison through the intervention of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and his expulsion to the United States in September 2012.

Many myths and fallacies have surrounded the life of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi; a man who has played a profound and undeniable role in shaping the history and culture of South Africa for more than half a century. Yet even his opponents refer to him as the doyen of South African politics. This book chronicles Buthelezis legacy in South Africas struggle for liberation. It examines his utterances, beliefs and warnings, to the ANC alliance, the apartheid government and the people of South Africa at large. In doing so, it exposes the myths and challenges the propaganda, while forging a clearer picture of the man about whom so much has been written. The book considers Buthelezis principled advocacy of peaceful change, when it was fashionable to cry for violence. It explores his influential role at the negotiating table at CODESA and reflects on why his vision and commitment could not be ignored by his opponents. His active espousal of federalism, in direct opposition to the unitary one-party state envisioned by the ANC, is also investigated. Finally the book chronicles Buthelezis service in the Government of National Unity and the reasons why Presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki entrusted him with running the State more than twenty times over a five year period. Through writing this book, the author has come face to face with the unique character of Buthelezi, from his remarkable leadership skills to his workaholic tendencies. Buthelezis undeniable integrity, loyalty, faith and wisdom have influenced the making of his legacy, which has somehow married liberal values with ubuntu botho - a form of African humanism. For more than 60 years Buthelezi has carried the torch he inherited from leaders like Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme, Professor ZK Mathews and Inkosi Albert Luthuli. This book describes the journey. Themba Nzimande holds a degree in political science and public management. He has been involved in the politics of the Inkatha Freedom Party since its inception in 1975 and has served on its Central Committee.

Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis are two important figures in American History. One was born in a family were all the necessities of life were available, while the other was born in total abject poverty. But, there were many similarities between the two. They both served in congress, Lincoln was a member of the House of Representatives and Davis was a senator. Both were presidents within the current boarders of the United States. Abraham Lincoln was president of the North and Davis was president of the South. They were the same age, eight months apart, and they physically resembled each other. Both planned for the others assassination. Because of the similarities, some people have wanted to know if their families were connected in any way. It is not stated anywhere in American History books that Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis were related. But they were. They were brothers. Abraham Lincoln's mother had an affair with Jefferson Davis' father. Together Samuel Davis and Nancy Lincoln had a baby boy. Nancy's husband, Thomas Lincoln, named the baby Abraham Lincoln. Barack Obama announced his victory on November 4th, 2008. For the first time in the history of America, the people elected an African-American as President. Martin Luther Kings dream has now finally come true. Obama was judged by the content of his character, rather by the color of his skin.

A good heathcare wasnt the only thing that Obama promised you. It was about giving America a whole new shape in the 21st century. He promised to reverse this countrys great economic downturn. He also promised to provide the children with a better public education and an opportunity for better jobs in future.

Along with Americas issues, Obama also promised to bring the man to justice who was responsible for the thousands of innocent lives lost on September 11th, 2001.

As you read the book, youll come to know that Obama fulfilled all his promises. Even though if he is faraway from the finish line, he has still made a huge effort to do what he promised. As he said, Democracy in a nation of 300 million people can be noisy and messy and complicated. And when you try to do big things and make big changes, it stirs passions and controversy.
