I am a Patchwork Quilt is a compilation of writings of the nouns (names of people, places and things) that touched the life of the author, Ana Maria Ward, formerly an English teacher. While writing her first novel, a biography about her father, Gordon F. Ward, Uncommon Survivor: from Sand to Bronze, the author became inspired with the idea to write about those people who touched her life in the places where she lived from her birth to the present. Although her father was ill, he read some of the first chapters, or patches, and encouraged her to continue with her theme during the final days of his life. He approved the concept of the author as the quilt made up of patches representing everyone involved in her life. Some of them were linked to him. Determined to please her father, the author wanted I am a Patchwork Quilt to be an uplifting experience for her readers. Related to the degrees of separation, each person or patch has a unique relationship to the author and as in life, some with seriousness and some with humor. In reality, every person is unique and relationships are unique. The patches in I Am a Patchwork Quilt are connected to the reader in various amusing ways. The reader may laugh, the reader may cry, but the reader will be moved to find that around the world people will feel warm when magically involved in the blanket of love.

Do you remember that time in your life when things took a dramatic turn for the better or worse? Or have friends ever told you that your story is so interesting you should write it down in a book? Ladies that Rock is such a book. I have been fortunate to find many admirable women who, on looking back, recognize the turning points in their lives, ones that have made them who they are today. My own story was the catalyst for this book. How can I forget the exact moment that started the chain of events taking me from being a financially struggling, single mother of three young children teaching thirty-two fitness classes a week, transforming, out of necessity and determination, into a business woman who travelled to every corner of the globe, training thousands of women to run their own skincare and cosmetic businesses. Evolving out of my lifes interest in supporting womens successes, be they physical or financial, comes this compilation of real-life, sometimes gritty narratives, Ladies that Rock.

Are you a woman considering a career as a professional chef? Or maybe you are just curious about what life is really like behind the kitchen walls of a restaurant through the eyes of a female chef. This is the story of my cooking journey from the White Mountains of New Hampshire to the coast of Cape Cod, then across country to Lake Tahoe and beyond. After graduating from The Culinary Institute of America and getting married, both in 1981, my husband and I moved westward. Throughout this book, you will gain insight into my life in more than twenty different restaurants, both large and small, short-lived and long. For a few years, I also taught professional cooking at both the high school and college level. Throughout the book, you will become enlightened to the many diffi culties, as well as, humorous day to day events that occurred in the many places I have worked. You may laugh, cry and get angry all in one chapter. Even though I am not a world renowned chef, I did achieve my highest goal, owning and operating my own restaurant. I owe my success to my sons and parents support, mentally, physically and fi nancially. I never would have survived if it wasnt for them. Included in this book, are a few of my favorite recipes. Someday I hope to get my cookbooks published, too.

What We Did to Me is a look into the life of a child whom felt unwanted, trying all the wrong things to get the love she so hungered for from her mother. She got the attention she wanted from all the wrong people: her parents male friends, and certain male family members. Getting kidnapped and assaulted, she thought surviving made her stronger. The strength she thought she had came from drugs, and they only masked the pain. Marrying the man her mother chose for her only made matters worse.
