This is the story of a man who was born and grew up in NOVA SCOTIA. HE slipped out of high school when he was seventeen and a half years of age and joined the RCAF. After starting training to be a pilot, he transferred to gunnery school and eventually became a flight sergeant air gunner. After two and a half years, and the end of the war, he was discharged and worked in various parts of eastern Canada. He travelled and played in several areas of the world including such places as South America, Central America, Europe, Australia, and parts of East Asia. This book is the story of his�my�adventures. It is intended to be a work of nonfiction but, because of a defective and sometimes selective memory, may also be viewed as fiction. My book is my autobiography: it is told in a short story form; all about the highs and the many lows I experienced, and the decisions I made, that propelled me to both my successes, and my many failures that I reached out seeking to find! (I always hoped for the best; I expected I might find the very worst; and usually it would fall somewhere in between: that way, I was seldom if ever, disappointed!) I always tried to treat people I met, with the same respect, as I wanted them to show to me in return. I know I could have done better than I did most times, but I truly never took "LOVE" lightly, nor did I tell women I met, that I loved them, just because it was convenient to do so! I often tried to express my feelings, the best way I could with most of the poetry I wrote, with honestly, and a sincere amount - of humility, and inspiration! If I could change only one thing in my life: I would try to have been a better roll model to my kids, and to have been - a better father, and grand pa!

My Beloved Mother My mother�s gentle touch, her soft lips that whispered hush, a gentle creature no one as lovely as she, God�s beautiful gift that was bestowed upon me. A flower bed was the fragrance of her flesh, as sweet as roses and silk to the touch. Now she lay to rest, my loss is deep for a mother�s love is best. Beneath the snow, buried deep, where earth and flowers lay heaped. I have finally come to you so I may pray and weep. If my mind begins to doubt or my heart begins to fear that your spirit is no longer near . . . I will listen carefully as the wind rustles through the trees. Your sweet words shall be carried to me upon a gentle breeze. The earthly bond of mother and daughter has been broken. I look now to the future with my newborn son. God has spoken.

I am a Patchwork Quilt is a compilation of writings of the nouns (names of people, places and things) that touched the life of the author, Ana Maria Ward, formerly an English teacher. While writing her first novel, a biography about her father, Gordon F. Ward, Uncommon Survivor: from Sand to Bronze, the author became inspired with the idea to write about those people who touched her life in the places where she lived from her birth to the present. Although her father was ill, he read some of the first chapters, or �patches,� and encouraged her to continue with her theme during the final days of his life.
