Introduction This version of the Key to English Grammar© based on the first edition published in 1983; presents the translations into Spanish of Chapter I-Phonetic analysis, and Chapter II- Structural analysis of words. Read the Appendix for translations of vocabulary and Verbs. Chapter I- Phonetic Analysis is focused for beginners of the English Language. It contains the rules of the sounds of letters, the spelling of words; the tonic accent, used in English to differentiate function words (English has no accent mark); and diphthongs, which help understand the pronunciation of words. Chapter II- Structural Analysis presents the most common foreign roots; the prefixes and suffixes, and an appendix of vocabulary and verbs (Orthography). Chapter III- Syntax Construction introduces the parts of speech: Verbs, adverbs, nouns and adjectives are called vocabulary words, because they make up more than 99% of all the words listed in the dictionary. Articles, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections and pronouns, are called function words; though small in number, are important because they are used over and over in speaking and writing. Concisely written, The Masters of the Nine Gates is a synthesis of Language Arts instruction designed to enhance literary capacity and comprehension, academic motivation, and defi nitive levels of test strategies and applications. It is user-friendly and offers various techniques, insights, and exercises created to connect emergent readers and writers to their ever expanding worlds of literature. The Masters of the Nine Gates, as a supplementary text-manual, provides an over-all view of the obstacles and opponents that inner-city students encounter in their educational arenas. The text helps them to overcome these hurdles and gain greater confi dence, technique, and skill recognition as a result. The unique implementation of time-honored methodologies and teaching-learning strategies highlighted throughout the Masters of the Nine Gates is a plus. Students consistently demonstrate that they are better able to formulate their thoughts and correctly communicate them in the school (as well as homeschool) environmental settings when this text is utilized. Many of our Chinese Language teachers face the challenge that there is not a Chinese curriculum available for teaching the Chinese language in American elementary schools. I hope this book will motivate us to create sustainable Chinese language program in American schools.

This book provides theme-based activities for teaching Chinese language in American elementary schools. With this book, students will gain basic knowledge of beginning Chinese. Theme-based vocabularies are presented in simple worksheets that require students to read and write in Chinese. Age-appropriate songs and word lists are included.

Special thanks to Rosemary Feinstein who inspired me. Many thanks to Marisa Fang for her continuous support.
