‘Recipes For Disease’ is an on-going series of books containing information on on-going research into the correlations between diet, disease and blood-type. The blueprint for this research is the book ‘Eat Right For Your Type’ by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo. It is his research and his father’s discovery of the connection between antigens and lectins that made this newest facet of medicine possible.‘Recipes For Disease’ came about as a result of over twenty-five years of observations in dealing with the aged, diseased and training people in gyms. I had always noticed right from the beginning that two people would have the same diet and exercise routine and yet come out with completely different results. I noticed right off that these people had different blood-types and I felt absolutely sure that was the answer. That was 1978.Jump to 2005 when I discovered Dr. D’Adamo’s book. With all the training information and health information I had gathered over the previous quarter-century, this book made everything fall into place. Combined with my experience over the years, I had quite the jump on the research to start with; I knew just about where to begin. So, I did. The statistical trends I started to see were astounding. Now it’s 2008; three years later. I now have enough information to publish my initial findings and to show where this research is going. This is not about what you should do; instead, ‘Recipes For Disease’ talks about what you should not do to achieve results to a healthier body. Succeeding books will have more information and new areas of research that are currently being investigated plus many we haven’t even begun to consider. Enjoy!JP

So many diet plans give tremendous details about the physiological processes that make their particular diet successful, but fail to include the psychological elements that are also necessary for adherence to the diet plan. Hence, the goal of this book is to provide you with the life-long mental tool to adhere to your diet plan.
During the course of this book, I will point out several marketing techniques that thwart our efforts toward having a balanced daily diet. Then, I will show you how to apply psychological techniques “the right way” to help you stick to your diet plans and live a healthy lifestyle. This book will help you learn to control the many situations and thoughts, related to eating, that our parents helped to control when we were children.
Long after you have read this book, your self-created wristband with the acronym DIET (Do I Eat This?) will help remind you of the psychological eating strategies presented in this book. Wristbands with the acronym, D. I. E. T. "Do I Eat This?" inscribed on them can be purchased for $6.00 each. All proceeds will go to the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION. Please send cash or a check payable to Dr. Melinda Blackman, Department of Psychology, California State University, Fullerton, CA 92834. Please include the number of wristbands that you would like to purchase and a shipping address.

By Kathy Digges
Like most of us, Kathy was born into a dysfunctional family. As a child, her perception of her parents’ behavior left her looking for ways to cope. She chose eating. Unfortunately, now that she is an adult she is still coping by eating. Not only is she coping with the stress caused by events currently in her life, but she is also still coping with the events in her childhood. That is where she goes first in her journal: to her childhood. As she loses weight she remembers. She remembers her mother’s obsession with weight loss. She remembers her father’s lack of attention. She remembers her mother’s fault finding. She remembers her father’s betrayal. She has dreams, which bring back feelings that she had stuffed with food. She feels the feelings of her childhood. She writes about them, and she lets them go. She loses weight, but realizes that even though she has dealt with her childhood, there will always be more to deal with as her life continues. The difference is that now she is learning to cope as an adult. Now, she has attained self-confidence, self-respect and self-love.

Book SummaryYou have undergone the Lap Band, Roux-en-Y, or Biliopancreatic Diversion with/without Duodenal Switch (BPD). What happens next is up to you. You’ve been provided with a very powerful tool to help you with your weight loss goals. But how will you make sure you use your tool fully? How can you make sure you are doing what you need to do to maintain your new lifestyle? To help keep you on track early after surgery as well as years on down the road, it is important to find support in others who have gone through the same thing. That’s what this book is all about – offering you support. Some of the information in this book is taken from medical books, journals and various websites. But some of the suggestions are from other patients – patients who have undergone weight loss surgery and know what you are going through. You have an opportunity to read other patients’ suggestions and words of advice. Before your surgery, you were probably told that life afterwards would be different, especially with regards to eating and drinking. You were given lots of handouts with information. You went through classes on diet, nutrition and exercise. After your surgery, you may start to panic. You have to actually DO what you were taught to do. Suddenly it’s not so easy to sip fluids all day long or eat your food slowly. Take a deep breath and relax. Use your handouts and tips from your classes to help you. Use this “support book” to teach you and guide you in your new lifestyle, too. You CAN do this. Are you wondering if it even matters if you follow all those crazy new ways of eating and drinking? Sure it does. Think of your body as a car. Remember when you got your first car? There was a lot to learn about how to take care of it and keep it working properly. If you didn’t take care of your car the way the manufacturer recommended, your car would not run properly and you wouldn’t get 200,000 miles out of it. It’s the same with your surgery. You need to follow your surgeon’s recommendations to “overhaul” your body and improve your “mileage.”As you read this “support book,” you will find that each chapter tackles a specific problem: drinking enough liquids, eating enough protein, taking the proper vitamins, getting exercise, dealing with depression, finding different meal ideas, dealing with problems and complications, and moving forward after your surgery. You are reminded of the lifestyle changes you need to make. But more than that, the reasons behind the lifestyle changes are explained. And you are given specific examples of how to make those changes real in your life.Your surgery is the powerful tool you chose to get you started on the road to better health. But like the engine of your car, your tool can only take you so far. It is up to you to keep all the parts of your “car” working properly. This is your new life and your new lifestyle. Your journey toward better health has begun. Let this “support book” help you continue along the journey, from the first day after your surgery and every day thereafter.
