Over Fifty Years of Unconditional Love
Author Diane Fontes Allen shares her memorable experiences of her beloved pets

Norwood, MA – (November 7, 2006) – A woman’s great love for her pets has resulted into a memorable compilation of poetry and photos as she recalls each first encounter. Author Diane Fontes Allen invites readers and pet lovers to reminisce with her and her beloved pets in her picture book Fifty Years of Unconditional Love: And More…

Pets are a joy to behold with their antics and sometimes, just their company. The author is an avid animal lover and has collected a variety of pets over fifty years. She shares her amusing and sometimes sad experiences with her pets through the poems and pictures dedicated to her beloved animals who gave her so much love. In Fifty Years of Unconditional Love, Allen recounts each pet that came into her life, those that stayed even for a brief moment, those that passed on and those that are still with her today. She pays tribute to her pets through poems as she tells each wonderful experience with them.

Diane Fontes Allen is truly a remarkable woman with an equally remarkable love for animals. She works hard to provide pets she couldn’t keep with loving homes and leaves food on her porch for hungry pets who come to visit. She just can’t turn away a lost or homeless animal particularly those that are maltreated and malnourished. She nurses them back to health and adopts them, making them part of her growing family. She also gives away some pets to deserving owners that would provide them a loving home. This book is a testimony of her great unconditional love for her pets. Readers and pet lovers alike will find this an interesting read, sprinkled with amusing experiences of a variety of lovable pets.

About the Author
Born seventy-seven years ago Diane Fontes Allen grew up with always a dog and cat in the family as well as spending her youth on her grandmother’s farm. She learned at a very young age that she had a love for all animals. When she was newly married, her animals became part of her everyday life and she has never been without three to seven pets in her home at a time. Because of her work taking her many miles from home, she always found lost or abandoned animals, kept some and found homes for others. Today she still works, has three cats, and many hobbies: gardening, crocheting, playing the organ, performing and singing, writing spiritual poetry and songs. She is now writing her memoirs of her days in show business.

By Richard D. Haines, Richard W. Haines
Animal Kingdumb is a whimsical series of poems detailing the unusual and occasionally ‘dumb’ behavior of life on earth. Starting with the dinosaurs and continuing with the mammals, birds and sea life, each verse contains factual information along with anecdotal insights. Some even incorporate subtle satire and social commentary which will expand it’s appeal to older children and their parents. However, the text is designed to be enjoyed by all ages on different levels. Perhaps the best description of the book would be a combination of Dr. Seuss and Mad Magazine.

The comic illustrations that accompany the verse are actually a self contained gag as well as a supplement to the text. For example, in the poem on the Ape, the versenotes that although gorillas are high on the evolutionary tree, they still cannot write a silly poem about themselves. The comic illustration shows an Ape attempting to read a copy of Darwin’s “Origin of the Species” with a rather confused look on his face. In another satiric poem, ‘busy as a Beaver’ notes the impact humans have on the forest compared to our furry friends. The illustration shows a Beaver building a dam with a copy of environmental regulations from the EPA.

Other poems are surreal. In the text of the Kangaroo, Haines considers what it’s like living ‘down under’ in Australia. In the illustration, the poor Kangaroo is literally down under and upside down on the page. The Zebra is much like a horse except they have stripe coats. The illustration shows a zebra painting the stripes on himself.

We recommend that parents read the book with their child so they can discuss the different types of humor contained in each verse. Part whimsy and part satire with plenty of laughs, Animal Kingdumb is a highly original book that will start a new trend in children’s literature. It makes the perfect gift for any holiday and will be a good addition to your home library. Order your copy today.

This book contains a collection of poems written in storybook form. The Eagle is the main character featured in this book. The author has captured the character of the Eagle. The next story is about a little dog named Max. Max grew up with us as children. He was a smart little dog and he was like a family member. Max’s life ended in a tragedy. The Legend of the Four Star Ranch tells one of many tales that was told to family members. It was said that many people were afraid to go to the ranch after dark because they had heard about some dreadful things happening to other people. Most of these stories were probably fabricated tales, but the stories were interesting. Prairie Bell was a beautiful rock school. It was probably built in the late thirties. This school was in the country, and was named after two community churches. Nature at Dusk, Nature at Work, and Sunset, captures some of nature’s wonders.
