This book is to be read by both the advanced reader and the beginning reader. The parent, teacher, or peer reads the journal entry of Sam, a child visiting their grandparents. The child learning how to read will read the thoughts of Jasper, the orange house cat. The large printed rhymes following these dialogues are meant for choral reading. Both partner readers or a class can read together to improve pronunciation and fluency. The book is for students that are reading at the kindergarten level. The book emphasizes the short "a" sound. Jasper encourages the child to be involved in the reading process by blending and comprehending what is read. The rich, detailed photographs encourage the child to discuss the story line of a pet so loved.

Summary of book:
My Special Reading Teacher (As Told by Sadie and Sara Jane)
By Charlotte Kay Hill
Sadie is a second grade student who was unable to read as well as her friends. For two years she attended a Special Reading Class for one half hour a day where a Reading Teacher helped her learn how to read. Once Sadie had mastered the second grade reading skills she “graduated” from Special Reading Class, and no longer needed to go to the extra class on a daily basis. She was very proud, but realized that she was going to miss the close relationship she had established with her reading teacher. Sadie’s mother, Sara Jane, was so grateful for the extra help that had been given to her daughter that she wrote a very kind thank you letter to Sadie’s Special Reading Teacher. This true story is a result of that letter, it lets other young students know that there is always hope to be able to learn a new skill if one works hard and long enough.

I wish I Were Many ColorsWhat happens when your little ones wish they were many colors? You shall soon find out.“I Wish I Were Many Colors” captures the colorful imagination of a little child’s brilliant mind.Just imagine what your little ones could be doing with brown toes, a pink stomach, and yellow knees!"Stirs the imagination of both children and adults alike and teaches a powerful lesson of acceptance.” - Her Excellency Sheila Sealy Monteith, Ambassador of Jamaica to Mexico“A well articulated book that encourages acceptance and uniqueness, and is certain to charm children as well as encourage their love for reading.” – Wesley T. Leonard, Senior Minister, Southside Church of Christ, Orlando, FL"This is truly a delightful story that not only invites children to use their imaginations, but it celebrates their uniqueness. Well done!" - Crystal Johnson Turner, Central Regional Director, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, Wichita, KS“One of the best children’s books I’ve read in a long time. It echoes the importance of appearance, self-acceptance, and diversity!” – Pamela C. Clark, Early Childhood Resource Teacher, Orlando, FL“Children often formulate and internalize a negative view of self - occurring as a direct result of their experiences early in life. It is encouraging to have an author so creatively provide a resource, if used lovingly, which can assist in changing the world one child at a time.” - Arlisa Long, owner of Our P.L.A.S.E. Family Childcare, Oklahoma City, OK

Web text for Book Summary No matter what areas of science you are planning to include in your curriculum; this manual is presented to extend, explore, experience and create appropriate developmental skills that will cause early childhood students to understand why, when and what takes place in their environment as pre-school children. The manual is arranged into scientific subject areas. Each lesson will present: The subject area, the lesson number, the focus point, word pronunciation and meanings, materials needed, first-hand experiences, and the instructional lesson. Discussions and oral quizzes will be used as a diagnostic practice. The entire manual focuses on al pre-school children who can participate and be able to experiment with act learned (with supervision). Students are inquires and have lot of fun finding out what is. Be happy and your students will be happy too! Be a good motivator about scientific things around us. Learning takes place best when the students are motivated and interested in the lessons you are presenting. Students enjoy discovering science facts for themselves. This manual will help students develop additional facts, questions and discuss their understanding. It is sincerely hoped that students will comprehend each lesson for success will be experienced in future science programs. My first reason for “Extending and Preparing Early Childhood Student for Future Scientific Success” came about as a sincere desire to assist students at an early level, so by the time they reach third and fifth grade levels, they will succeed with higher scores on the State Comprehension Science Assessment Scores. The State Comparison Science scores for 2006-2008 are attached on the following pages. It is imperative that there must be early childhood science interventions, in order for our students to acquire scientific knowledge in out scientific world. The projections are on the following pages: Which will your child choose.

By Judith Simon, M.Ed.
Good children’s literature has always played an important role in Judith Simon’s raising of her daughter and in the daily curriculum of her classroom. She was ahead of her time, in literature based whole language reading programs that comprised her methodology. This book Parrots2Peacocks Patterns encourages the parent to truly become the child’s first teacher, and with the aid of “scripted instructions” in Spanish and English can implement lessons in early pre-reading and math skills such as color words, number words, the alphabet and recognition of beginning sounds. Seven books are suggested reading to complete the activities in this book, however the activities can be completed without reading the books as well. Directions are simple, yet detailed. Ideas for cutting out and storing the activities to use in the future for skills practice are also explained. The large, bold and uncluttered format of each page has been carefully thought out. Most activity books and coloring books for early learners are cluttered and difficult for young, developing eyes to track.Children can easily trace, cut and color the images in Parrots2Peacocks Patterns. Some time ago, Judith Simon gave much thought to the role of the parent in child rearing. She likened a young child to a parrot. The child would imprint as baby chicks and ducks, mimicking what was seen and heard from the parent. The child would grow and develop and gain independence and skills and the parent would be proud and spread wings as a peacock. The child was also proud of his accomplishments, and too spread his wings as a peacock. And hence, Parrots2Peacocks was born!
