The True Tales of Henry and Don is a story based on the real life experiences of two donkeys. It is the third story in the trilogy known as The Tails. The two donkeys paths cross when they discover one another living on the same farm. Each one was brought to live there for a different reason . Henry comes to the farm to be a companion to an old retired show horse named Paris. Over time Henry proves to be an excellent friend to Paris and the other old timers. Sadly though , for Henry, every time he must say good-bye to one of his dear old friends, he suffers from a serious condition of worry and grief retention . This malady is manifested in large lumps all over his body. Don, on the other hand, comes to live on the same farm as Henry for the sole purpose of now being a companion to Henry. Don is filled with adventure, daring and insatiable appetite for excitement. He hasnt a care in the world. He hasnt a responsibility in the world either. Henry and Don could not be more different. At the beginning of their story Don is quick to notice that Henry is not his type. Actually, Don finds Henry dull and boring. Henry, on the other hand, cannot believe his good fortune to have the young spirited Don in his life. What a contrast to what he was used to! That is, up to a point and then Henry once again, finds himself having to take responsibility for Don. The lumps get bigger!!!

Sally, Sadie, and Benny Kyburg walked into Pirates Cove Snack Bar early Saturday morning. Their twin brothers Johnny and Billy were turning fourteen years old the following Monday on the Fourth of July. After saying hello to Mom, Dad, and Grandma Sadie, they quickly got to the point. They wanted to have a birthday party for the twins. Mrs. Kyburg asked, What do you have in mind? Sally spoke, It was actually Sadies idea to take the twins on the Matterhorn to New York City to see the Fourth of July fireworks. The snack bar is closed Mondays, and the whole family could go. Mr. and Mrs. Kyburg nodded their heads. They both agreed it was a wonderful idea. Mrs. Kyburg said they should also invite Chris and Bobby Williams. They were twins who moved to Pirates Cove from Boston, Massachusetts, four years ago. They were both in Johnny and Billys class and were constant companions of the Kyburg twins since they moved here. Their father was transferred from a Boston hospital to be the head surgeon at a state university hospital a few miles from Pirates Cove. Both sets of twins played in a summer baseball league and were looking forward to play for the Pirates Cove High School JV team in the spring. It was 8:00 a.m., and it was time to open the snack bar for breakfast. They all decided to make plans for the party later that night.
