It adds a dash of pleasant surprise, because if you always get what you expect, life loses its flavour.” Lyla is a one small, insignificant nine year old whose dream is to be the best dancer she can be. As a child, I grew up on Chestnut Ridge in the mountains of Latrobe Pennsylvania. My brothers and cousins would wonder thru the woods playing, and one of the peoplewho we knew as children was a man named “Mr. Clark”. Mr. Clark live back “The oldroad” as we called it , where also my Great Grandfather “Sam Campbell” had a farm.Mr. Clark lived in an old house; one room was hewn logs, and the other room which was added on was of frame design. There was a pot belly stove on the front room, and a spring house outside his front door. Mr. Clark collected fiddles, that fascinated me. I today am a pianist and musician and have always loved music. I remember fondly him playing the fiddle for us children, so I’ve written about him.

A book about people, homes and communities - This book is dedicated to all children and their parents, in hopes that they will never display prejudice, nor bare the burden of facing prejudice. I hope they will see people for who they are inside, not whom they are outside. I thank: My grandchildren: Aaron, Isaiah, Elijah, Nicholas, Joshua, Jacob, Sierra and Jeremiah without whom I never would have realized a need for this book. Samantha, whom I have seen grow from a beautiful baby to a lovely young lady. She has had to fight racial prejudice all her life, and yet, has overcome that obstacle and dedicated herself to become an accomplished clarinetist. I believe she will go a long way with her determination.
I would also like to thank everyone who gave me the courage and encouragement to write this book.

Visit Kids ‘N’ Stuff whenever you like with “KIDs” as your tour guide. Written by founder Rebecca Mitchell with artwork by Karen Dobbins and Mary Habicht, this book will take you on an adventure through some of the museum’s most popular exhibits. This book is a wonderful way to remember a visit to the museum or to share it with friends and family who can’t visit themselves. What started as a dream for children, today is Kids ‘N’ Stuff. In the spring of 2000 Rebecca Mitchell sat on an airplane reading an article about the Boston Children’s Museum. As she sat reading the article, a vision for the future of downtown Albion and the community’s youth came to her: take a building that been vacant for over 10 years and turn it into a children’s museum. As a member of the Albion Public School Board and Downtown Development Authority, Mrs. Mitchell had first hand knowledge of both community economic needs and the lack of resources for children under the age of 10. From her desire to create a safe and engaging environment for youth, and the generosity of building donor Tom Feldpausch, more than 100 community volunteers joined together to open Kids ‘N’ Stuff: An Interactive Experience for Kids, which opened to the public on September 15, 2002. This activity is supported by the Community Development Artist in Residence Grant Program of the Arts & Industry Council and is made possible by a grant from the WK Kellogg Foundation.
