By Dr. Nkem Obiechina
I started to write this book about three years ago, when I realized that I was getting the same questions from patients that were referred to me for periodontal therapy. They were often not happy at the diagnosis, and fi rst wanted to fi nd out why they had it, and details about the treatment they needed to have.
Once they understood the therapy that was available, it often made rendering treatment much more comfortable, because it did not seem quite so daunting for them. I tried to put together some of the answers about periodontal therapy, and the description of different current periodontal procedures, into a book, so that patients did not have to spend hours online or in libraries studying to get familiarized with certain procedures prior to treatment.
While this book may not answer all questions that they might have regarding periodontal therapy, I had hoped to provide a background about the procedures and some results from prior patients, so that they had some information about the therapy that they are undergoing, and can be able to ask questions to their periodontists or dentists if they are interested in further information regarding their periodontal care.
