Over Medicating Our Youth provides knowledge for parents, educators, and physicians to consider the etiology or causation of behavioral conditions before medicating children with psychiatric and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) symptoms. The prescribing of stimulant and psychiatric medications prior to ruling out nutritional, physiological, and environmental causation for behavioral conditions requires reform. This book provides guidance for parents, educators, and physicians to utilize effective alternative treatments plans as well as assessments prior to prematurely medicating children. The recent United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) Child Foster Care report uncovered the injustice of overmedicating children with ADD stimulant and psychiatric drugs. The GAO report proves that a positive change in the treatment of childhood behavioral conditions should involve a more comprehensive assessment as to the causation of behavioral symptoms.

"Diabetes is a topic that has been part of my career since I was a student nurse. I have been involved with the diabetes education of many people. There are many good books by professionals that help with the management of diabetes mellitus by providing dietary information as well as medication and exercise information. I want to provide information from a little different perspective: that which may help the individual learn what is going on inside their body. I believe that if people understand what is going on inside their body, then they will be able to interpret some valuable information. Our magnificent body is always trying to help us. If we listen, then maybe we will learn how to help ourselves."

This book has been written for the entertainment of the reader. It provides short stories, an essay and reminiscences of a full life of the author. Each story is based on fact, with some changes of presentation. There is no coherent connection between the stories except that each one was experienced by the writer.
Most of the narratives have been shared with members of the Patuxent Writers Group. I was asked why I did not write in the first person since the stories deal with personal experiences, however I prefer at times to use a pen name – “Ken Brown”.
All one needs in order to write a book is a good memory. Life experiences provide the material.
