Michael Jackson was the King of Pop and a noted entertainer, humanitarian, and philanthropist. Michael Jackson was always under the scrutiny of the media when in public. On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson was pronounced dead from cardiac arrest at approximately 2:26 pm MST at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. There is so much conflicting information concerning whether Michael was a drug addict or not. Michael Jackson had many trials and tribulations over the past twenty years which have caused him much heartache and pain. The media has ostracized and ridiculed the entertainer whenever possible. He was an entertainer that loved to develop illusions for his stage presentations and videos which “fooled” his audiences. Michael always wanted to have a normal life for him and his children in which they could enjoy the simple things in life without the scrutiny of the public and media. Michael has proven to be worth more in death than in life. With all the publicity for his death, there is still no real physical evidence Michael Jackson is really deceased. Therefore, there is the possibility Michael inadvertently created the “illusion” of his own death.

The King of Novelty is Jon Goodmans revisionist epic for posterity of his father, legendary novelty record producer and music sampling pioneer Dickie Goodman, a man contending with internal conflict and familial obligations while entertaining the world; foreword by Dr. Demento, and epigraph from "Weird Al" Yankovic. Chuck Miller, Goldmine. Varese Sarabande released a CD dedicated to Dad. And it has liner notes by me! Its a golden opportunity for fans old and new. The title is 25 All Time Novelty Hits and you can get it in stores or go right to the Varese Sarabande web site. For the fist time ever, a Dickie Goodman record is on a GRAMMY winning CD! RHINOs, BRAIN IN A BOX-The Science Fiction Collection was nominated for a GRAMMY at the 44th annual GRAMMY Awards; and it won. This fabulous CD box set contains Dickie Goodmans original hit record from 1956, THE FLYING SAUCER (parts 1 and 2).The reasons for this achievement being so significant cannot be emphasized enough... in 1956 there was no NARAS, hence no GRAMMY for Dickie Goodman. Nearly twenty years later (1975) when Dickie Goodmans MR. JAWS went gold, there was no qualifying category, hence once again no GRAMMY for Dickie Goodman. Yet now, decades later, this forsaken international icon of American creativity took a ride on a RHINOs back and for the first time ever got his foot in the back door of the prestigious GRAMMY Awards. Let me tell you, Dad would have been proud enough just to be included on a GRAMMY nominated album, let alone actually winning! Congratulations to the folks at RHINO; I will frame my invitation from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and keep The Best Boxed Recording Package close by. The folks at NARAS have also awarded Dad with a posthumous GRAMMY certificate! Profound, is the only word to describe THE KING OF NOVELTY, because the manuscript is symbolic of the life it represents. Not just a biography, but a metaphor. The King of Novelty is about a famous record producer whose esoteric comedy created more than a genre; Dickie Goodman created an entire subculture. Dickie Goodman, THE KING OF NOVELTY, invented the break-in record; a comedy recording that used samples of previously published hit songs to satirize and make parody of current events. In other words Dickie Goodman began what is now known as mixing and sampling by summarizing an era in two hysterical minutes. Today, sampling is the music industrys largest source of reinvention, and Dickie Goodmans novelty/comedy records started it all. THE KING OF NOVELTY describes the impact these eclectic records had on shaping American pop culture. Dickie Goodman is listed by Billboard as the #1 novelty/comedy recording artist of all time. Over four decades he sold millions of copies of a multitude of charted hits worldwide. To this day Dickie Goodman sells over 100,000 CDs a year in the US alone! THE KING OF NOVELTY is the biography of Dickie Goodman; his rise and fall as a creative genius in the music industry and as a human being; and the impact his life and death has on the business he was in and the lives of his loved ones; also the impact Dickie Goodman had on American pop culture and his son, Jons struggle to perpetuate his legacy. THE KING OF NOVELTY is a yellow brick road of hit records, following those gold records as the bricks of a prolific record producers career. THE KING OF NOVELTY begins by reeling you in to American pop culture, as it was shaped by Dickie Goodman during one of the most successful periods of his career. Early chapters delve into genealogy and the childhood of Dickie Goodman and then the course of his life as it leads to more success and impacts the lives of others. THE KING OF NOVELTY is an in-depth study of Dickie Goodmans invention, the break-in record, a recording concept that laid the foundation for what is known today as mixing and sampling. Middle chapters enter his family life with wives and children, further revealing information on Dickie Goodmans pioneering contribution to the world of sound bite advertising when the concept was just in its infancy; then a slump in career, which is followed by an enormous come-back. Later chapters cover a decline in Dickie Goodmans career and character not to be overcome, and a bond develops with his son, Jon. We take a profound look at Dickie Goodmans patriotic influence on freedom of speech as we see the effect he had on American parody and satire; the eye-opener that Goodmans dramatic shaping of radio couldnt help but spill over into television, and finally dramatic evidence of Dickie Goodmans impact on the listening habits of millions as he brought them to the back door for their first earshot into the newborn realm of Rock n Roll. As a special bonus, THE KING OF NOVELTY ends with not only the first complete discography for Dickie Goodman records, but also the worlds first SAMPLEOGRAPHY; listing all Dickie Goodman break-in records and ALL the samples used on them! This is truly a first both in music and literature, a real World Record! Over 700 samples listed! THE KING OF NOVELTY closely examines the tragic loss of Dickie Goodmans life, to suicide, and the near death of his work of forty years. Further chapters deal with Jons life showing what shapes him to create a young man who will one day be left behind to carry on in his fathers name. THE KING OF NOVELTY takes us on a fun-filled journey through Dickie Goodmans career as he pioneered the novelty record, a comedic concept born in the Rock-n-Roll era and carried on through today with some of the biggest hits of all time, with Dickie Goodman fathering most of them. THE KING OF NOVELTY ends by bringing us up to date on where the legacy of Dickie Goodman stands today. Points brought out in this book rock the foundation of long held beliefs in the music and entertainment industry: The mythical premise that Rappers and hip-hop artists invented mixing and sampling, an industry in itself that has become the music business largest source of revenue. The enormously popular yet misinformed belief that Elvis and Little Richard single handedly brought in the genre of Rock-N-Roll and R&B, displacing the Pop music trend. The myth that John Lennon and The Beatles invented speed manipulation remixing and backwards or hidden messages on record sound tracks. The notion that Phil Spector originated the flip side throw away tune. The urban legend that Lenny Bruce was the first comedian to attack politics and entertainment with parody, and satire. The list goes on and on and each case proves Dickie Goodman, a.k.a DG, ORIGINAL NAPSTER, did it first, did it successfully, did it controversial and won, breaking new ground for contemporary comedy, radio and music, for what would become American Pop Culture. Witness the modern changes this American father made, way before his time and what they mean to the awesome media outlets available to the entire entertainment industry today. Whether its digital downloads, radio, records, the press or television late shows and sitcoms, THE KING OF NOVELTY effectively shares how it all boils down to Dickie Goodman and his connection with family, America and destiny. Every new year is summarized with collages of our era. And we are dawning the most moving of all. As we observe our media time capsules, the video and audio collages of our millennium, let us not forget the man who invented this emotionally captivating tool in the first place. LONG LIVE THE KING OF NOVELTY DICKIE GOODMAN! ...............Dear prospective readers, Can you appreciate a book that deals with Americana, biography, pop culture, music history, fame, fortune and tragedy? If so, you might consider reading THE KING OF NOVELTY. My name is Jon Goodman, and I wrote this book about my father, Dickie Goodman, the most successful novelty recording artist of all time. He has a huge fan base from baby-boomers to generation x and beyond! A music pioneer whose career paralleled Elvis Presley, Dickie Goodmans world record until now, has gone as unacknowledged as it is unbroken. Joel Whitburns book, Billboard Top Pop Singles, names Dickie Goodman, the number one novelty/comedy recording artist of all time. That means, Dickie Goodman had more novelty and comedy hit records on the charts (and still does) than anyone else ever! Go ahead, name a few comedians or novelty artists...Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Weird Al Yankovic, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Bill Cosby, Ray Stevens, Richard Pryor, Randy Newman etc. Not one of them, charted as many times as Dickie Goodman. Yet he never got a lifetime achievement award or induction in the Hall of Fame. How bizarre that a gold record winner at the top of his genre should be so forsaken. The King of Novelty brings out facts that people just dont know. Dickie Goodman invented mixing and sampling, which is todays music industrys largest source of reinvention. In the world of comedy and music, Dickie Goodman was a legend, rivaling Lenny Bruce and John Lennon. He tasted fame and then his life ended with the tragedy of his suicide. As we transcend a new millennium, The King of Novelty draws dramatic comparison between the golden age of radio and our technological era of television. By wandering through the life of a prolific broadcast pioneer, raised in Americas radio days, we witness a wonderfully historical account of Americana. The ushering in of television, blossoms Dickie Goodman into a true revisionist. One lone individual bridging the generation gap between radio and TV, to shape what is now known as American Pop Culture. Dickie Goodmans career began in the Rock era of the fifties & climaxed during the Disco craze in the seventies, yet the sub-culture of novelty music he created lived on even after his suicide in the late eighties. The King of Novelty is a human drama with research that leads us to the doors of famous founders of American music. Dickie Goodman collaborated with enough writers, publishers, producers and performers to start a small country. The King of Novelty is written by me, Jon Goodman, a genuine Generation X member. A legacy comprised of intellectual property must be revisited to a new millennium. I am therefore playing it up to all that it is worth. I have re-released Dickie Goodmans work for digital download and CD, for the first time ever. The national release is successfully reviving the public fervor for oldies and nostalgia fans, as well as for a whole new generation of children, teens and twenty somethings. From 1956-Flying Saucer to 1975-MR.JAWS, Dickie Goodman rides again! While there are a number of books out there letting you know my father existed and had phenomenal success as a record producer, they are all in the category of reference books. None specializing in the topic of just one man or even on the genre of novelty and comedy records like my book. Rather, the focus being on several artists. My book is told in a way others can relate to and at the same time tells the story of one mans life and the best kept secret of his impact on the lives of countless millions. Recent appearances include: NPR, Casey Kasum, VH1, Howard Stern, Fox TV, MTV, CBS FM, WDBZ, Z-100, GOLDMINE Magazine, NY Daily News, The Boston Globe and countless other print and radio interviews across the country. Dickie Goodman records are being played for the original popular hits as well as the new tracks I record. For regular rotation, you can hear all your Dickie Goodman favorites on Satellite radio SiriusXM. Dont forget, Dickie Goodman graced the pages of Time Magazine, The New York Times, Cash Box, Variety, Your Hit Parade and Billboard for four decades! THE KING OF NOVELTY promises controversial claims in the music industry. This is an extremely timely and sensitive matter, as it pertains to popular beliefs, world records and case law that is subject to change eventually. The very nature of novelty records is geared to all members of the family and the book is coming to print in the wake of publicity generated by current re-releases. I have embarked on a personal crusade to publicize and promote my father, Dickie Goodman. In his life he was famous, in mine, he will be immortal. Use your vision, your intuition, or just your sixth sense. Then read THE KING OF NOVELTY, Dickie Goodman today! Well-known record companies and music download sites including, RHINO, Warner Bros., K-TELL, COLLECTIBLES, Varese Sarabande, Sony, Luniverse, Time Life, iTunes, eMusic and Amazon aggregate over one hundred thousand copies of Dickie Goodman records sold every year! Not to mention the innumerable millions of Dickie Goodman records purchased by fans over the last forty years. You must keep in mind, whether or not you have ever even heard of Dickie Goodman, he had two gold record hits at a time when industry standards were higher. In other words, he sold more than two million records in the US just for those two hits. He also received gold records from Canada for an additional two million in sales of just those two hits. The hit records I refer to here are, THE FLYING SAUCER and MR.JAWS. The subculture created by these two records doesnt end here. The most powerful justification for this book is a fact it brings to light in a profound manner. Dickie Goodman had more hit records than any other novelty or even comedy artist in music business history! That means for four decades he charted seventeen hit records. Dickie Goodman was an international celebrity whose records to this day sell and play around the world. THE KING OF NOVELTY is of interest to the baby boom generation, considering history, nostalgia, trivia and novelty that revolves around them. Anyone who watches A&E, HBO, The History Channel or 60 MINUTES or listens to talk radio will want to read this book. People who love music also love the knowledge of whats behind it. THE KING OF NOVELTY offers the juiciest of Americana and pop culture, thoroughly responding to the resurging revival of 50s, 70s and 80s genres, particularly in music and music trivia. I am the son of a famous man who helped give America the opportunity to enjoy such musical categories as Rock-N-Roll, R&B, Rap, Comedy and most of all, Novelty. Dickie Goodman introduced the original African American recording artists and controversial Rock artists to radio stations and therefore members of the public who were not hearing them otherwise. He introduced radio to parody, satire and sampling in a way that has completely engulfed our culture. My book expands on all of this in a profound way. THE KING OF NOVELTY also contains a large sum of original poetry by the author, pertaining to, and woven into the story. I am the expert most qualified to write this work because I lived it. The hard part of research and interviews had already been done just by growing up. THE KING OF NOVELTY contains quotes from famous music industry moguls and personalities. Dickie Goodman is nonchalantly referred to by major industry sources, dubbing him various titles: MTV-The Grand Daddy of electronic mixing and sampling. BILLBOARD-#1 novelty and comedy recording artist. NY Daily News-Novelty King. The Fayetteville Observer-DG ORIGINAL NAPSTER. THE KING OF NOVELTY confers permanent, powerful, official recognition for my father; the way Elvis Presley and James Brown are referred to by their titles. THE KING OF NOVELTY brings out indisputable proof of what Dickie Goodman invented, originated, innovated, pioneered and succeeded in. The case law that he set. The boundaries he tested so that others might know where they lie. Everything that Dickie Goodman did first; the way he revolutionized radio and records. The man who put the flying saucer on the map, whether it be Roswell or Area 51 or Hanger 18, deserves to be featured in the countless new television programs coming out of Hollywood. The American UFO experience has reached a new high. We even have a Sci-Fi channel. People are nostalgic over the millennium and it seems all the shows are taking us back in our history now, whether it be the 80s, 70s or the 50s. The timing of THE KING OF NOVELTY couldnt be better. Its an emotional search into a young mans struggle to carry his fathers legacy into a new millennium. The current social climate shows enormous interest to the comeback of radio. In an ever-growing technological age of video, even with all the computers and TV, radio has resurged with gigantic popularity. Sitcoms revolve around radio, and talk radio has given birth to incredibly famous stars and personalities. In the age of Howard Stern, we can easily draw comparison to the earlier radio personalities who aroused the inspiration in the first place! From Facebook to Youtube fans old and surprisingly new post their own home made Dickie Goodman videos! One can envision a movie based on this work, with its theme song ringing in your ears, Video Killed The Radio Star... I have found my lifes calling, to see that once and for all, my fathers throne is claimed and heretofore Dickie Goodman shall be known as THE KING OF NOVELTY.
