For additional information on the book, go to www.prayersforanimals.org.

We love our pets. We care for them by feeding them and taking them to the veterinarian. But do we ever pray for them? Because we’ve never been given the words to express what’s in our hearts, these animals that reflect the Divine are too often excluded from our prayer life. We’ve been taught to pray for those we love, those in need, those who are alone, and all those less fortunate than us, but seldom do we find texts that teach us to pray for the animals around us.

In Preces pro Animalibus, Lori Marra gives us the words that so often fail us when we are confronted with an animal that requires and deserves our prayers. This collection of simple, sincere prayers, poems, and stories will guide you and inspire you to pray for animals in crisis, for new pet arrivals, for working animals, for pet owners, for nature, and for animals that have passed on. This book also includes a special section on organizations that aid animals. All profits from the sale of this book will be donated to agencies that aid animals. Your purchase of this book will contribute to the effort.

This book contains poems about animals from Asia, Australia, and Oceania, which are extinct, rare, endangered, or threatened. The text includes sections on mammals; amphibians, reptiles, and sea creatures; birds andbutterflies. The book concludes with a special section of exquisite poems on honeyeaters and honeycreepers from several Hawaiian islands. Just as the poems are suited to various reading levels, so also the artwork reflects artists of varying ages and abilities, from an eleven-year-old amateur to a retired professional. Through a variety of styles, the author engages the mind, emotions, and will of the reader, enabling him/her to see the world through the eyes of an Indian Python, Japanese Crane, Indian Rhino, Horseshoe Crab, or Long-Beaked Echidna, plus many more of your favorite creatures. As you read these aloud, consider what you can do to save the life of one species before it is gone forever.

I am not sure of the look after destroying a box of Kleenex. Truth of the matter was, she trashed the Kleenex box, knew it was wrong, but just did not care. Maggie Marshmallow is a true story of a setter that is alive and well. Growing up in New York City, as a young boy your thoughts start to wander to parts of the world that you read and hear about. You wonder if you will ever get the chance to travel the world and see these great lands and their inhabitants for yourself.

I consider myself more fortunate than others, having traveled and photographed throughout most of the world including, China, East Africa, South Africa, Egypt, Israel, South America, Europe. The list goes on traveling almost all of the United States, including Hawaii. My dream was to travel through Alaska and to be among the famous Alaskan bears.

About three years ago, that dream came true. With my wife, Rosalie, we set out on a cruise of the Alaskan Inside Passage to view and photograph the wonders of Alaska while celebrating our 30th. Anniversary. One day into the trip and I was hooked (like a salmon swimming up stream) and had to have more. The following year (making reservations and paying a year in advance) we were back in Alaska except this year we were on a 15-seat seaplane heading for a remote section called Brooks Falls located in the Katmai National Park and Preserve. Brooks Lodge is in the heart of "BEAR COUNTRY". There are as many as 30 bears living along the one and a half-mile Brooks river during the salmon season. If it is Bears that you want to view or photograph, this is the place. My dream of being in Alaska was now a reality with over 10,000 digital images shot and edited into the 58 images seen in this book. Additional images can be viewed on my website at: www.girphotos.com.

In the pages that follow, you will view images of Alaska, photographed with digital cameras and taken with a variety of lenses, in various locations, set up as a primer that might hook you into "BEAR COUNTRY".

This is a story about two pet cockatoos named Todi and Quincey. Todi was acquired in South Bend, Indiana and was a well known pet at Mr. Friendly’s Pet Shop in South Bend. She was so sweet and when the author first met her she knew from the start she was in love. Todi has been a special pet for years…almost 30 years. Her adventures start in a 3 person household when she was brought home as a pet around the Easter time of year in 1980. She did tricks and talked. It was pure love for the pet owners, as she did scream loudly, as a typical cockatoo does.

She acquired a brother Quincey Vincent Cockatoo, from an Amish household in Goshen, Indiana. He turned out to be the mean one in the family, as he did not have a sweet nature but he did love women, only women. He grew to hate men and other pets as well. But he becomes a hero when he chases a burglar away.

Quincey’s trip to the bird show shows how birds are like children and do not always behave. He embarrassed the family when he was taken to a bird show to perform and show off his feathers. He decided he would not perform.
