Life for Margaret Lee Porter Lyles began on a farm called “Grace’s Quarters,” located on the Gun Powder River, a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, in Baltimore County, Maryland. When she was two, the family moved to an area on a smaller tributary of the Gun Powder. It was a virtual paradise known as Bird River Beach, which was a bird sanctuary. Upon completion of her education, wanderlust struck and she joined Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant. She served with the airlines for ten years during which time she met her future husband. The couple settled in Miami, Florida where she was happy as a wife, mother, and community volunteer for many years. In response to the empty nest syndrome after her daughter left for college, Marge returned to school to study massage therapy. Successfully completing the state exam, she began her practice as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) in the state of Florida. She practiced for six years until 1992, when in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, she discovered a malignant breast tumor. In her search for healing she explored alternative therapies including macrobiotics, acupuncture, and herbal medicines. During this time she also discovered the healing benefits of Reiki. She was initiated into Reiki and has studied with four different Reiki Masters. Marge became a Reiki Master in 1994, and has been teaching and practicing Reiki ever since.
The author has been a guest lecturer of Reiki in Minnesota, Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina, and in Florida. Her student base is international with students from Canada and South America. She has shared the benefits of Reiki at retreat centers, health centers, and at community events. Mrs. Lyles has continued her Reiki and massage practice as a private consultant in Florida and currently practices and teaches at a private non-profit wellness center.
Reiki and You represents six years of research and writing and is the author’s first book with more planned. Her next Reiki book is entitled Reiki and Everyone© with more Reiki stories, some by her students, and with further information on the higher levels of Reiki. Future plans include an autobiography detailing her search for healing, and a story about family history in Maryland.
