Richard Lee Orey is a former official court reporter of the United States District Court and the California Superior Court with thirty-eight years of daily courtroom trial experience, including participating in over six hundred jury trials and tens of thousands of civil, criminal and domestic abuse cases ranging from personal injury civil trials to criminal charges of capital murder to secret grand jury investigations.

After serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War and studying personnel management and industrial psychology at the United States Armed Forces Institute, he graduated from the Chicago College of Commerce and soon became official court reporter of the United States District Court in Springfield, Illinois. Later in his career, he was appointed official court reporter of the California Superior Court, where he served five terms as president of the San Diego Superior Court Reporters Association and was a corporate founder and officer of the California Court Reporters Association.

As a Bar registered student, Richard daily studied legal theory and trial practice one-on-one �in chambers� and in the courtroom with California Superior Court Presiding Judge George A. Lazar�a former school teacher�before completing his formal legal education at the Cabrillo Pacific University College of Law, receiving the American Jurisprudence Award of Excellence. He has appeared as a paid keynote speaker in over two hundred law-related professional education seminars and as guest lecturer in trial and discovery procedures for the University of San Diego School of Law and the California Western University School of Law.

City of San Diego Mayor Frank Curran�s Letter of Commendation for Outstanding Community Leadership is one of many accolades Richard left behind when he retired from the courtroom.

Richard lives in Southern California and enjoys family gatherings, lake-paddling in his red canoe and leisure time in his rose garden.
