Lee Wyatt leaves his unfaithful wife and Dilbert-like accounting job for parts unknown. After his car dies in the Badlands State Park, Lee pedals his bicycle into the town of Dying Tree, SD. He becomes an assistant greens keeper, learns how to shoot a handgun from new friend Frank Leeds, transcends time and space thanks to peyote and a beautiful Native American named Soaring Eagle, learns about Ricky Mann’s planned casino-based entertainment complex (largely funded by the actor’s home town), and more importantly, learns that the actor’s investment group has backed out of the deal. With time running out before the town council passes the resolution to fund most of the now doomed casino deal, Lee Wyatt does the unthinkable. He challenges Ricky Mann to a pistol duel on Main Street.

Although Lee wins the duel, he appears to have lost the war after a judge´s decision lands Lee a spot on Death Row. But an honest heart and faith in God endow him with new life and a decidedly unforeseen, new perspective on life. Book review link:
