Dr. Alveda King is a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a grateful mother and grandmother.
She is a former college professor, author, mentor, stage and screen actress, Georgia State Legislator and presidential appointee. She has been �honored� and �blessed� to sit on several boards, and has received numerous awards and honors. Through her ministry of King for America and her vocation as Director of African American Outreach with Priests for Life, she devotes her God- given gifts and talents of writing, singing, song writing, producing and directing media projects and other gifts �to glorify God in the earth�.
La Verne Tolbert, Ph.D., has extensive experience in the field of abstinence education and teen pregnancy prevention. Her interests began in 1975 when she was invited to become a board member of Planned Parenthood in New York City where she volunteered until 1980 when she relocated to Los Angeles. The education that she received about abortion during her five-year tenure developed her into an avid pro-life advocate. Her research supports the need to teach abstinence in public schools.
Dr. Tolbert earned her undergraduate degree from New York�s Hunter College and her masters and doctoral degrees from Biola University/Talbot School of Theology, La Mirada, California. She also taught there as assistant professor and students twice nominated her for Who�s Who Among America�s Teachers.
Teaching Like Jesus Ministries, Inc. a parachurch ministry that equips leaders in the local church, was founded by Dr. Tolbert in 2001 to assist pastors with teacher training, abstinence education, and adoption ministries. Dr. Tolbert is president of the Society for Children�s Spirituality: Christian Perspectives, a scholarly organization that examines factors that contribute to the spiritual development of children. She married to Elder Irving Tolbert, a banker.
